I cannot add XML cards

Steps:

1. sudo apt-get install mnemosyne

2. Launch mnemosyne.

3. Download http://mnemosyne-proj.org/sites/default/files/cards/amino_acids.cards

4. Unzip

5. File > Import > Browse > cards.xml

6. Click OK

7. Nothing happens.

The cards are not imported. Nothing happens, and the OK button does not close the window. What should I do next?

Choose the "cards" format from the drop down box instead of xml.

There is no "cards" format. I can't take a screenshot with the dropdown menu displayed. Mnemosyne 1.2.2.

That's a very old version of Mnemosyne. The current version is 2.2.1 - if a recent version isn't available on Ubuntu's package repositories, then maybe you can try one of these deb files (something like "sudo dpkg -i mnemosyne-2.2.1.deb"):
