Hello,

I remember using Mnemosyne a few years ago, and it suddenly occurred to me that I could use it again while writing out physical flashcards.
Only thing is, I have a smartphone now, but I'm not understanding the sync concept to move files over from the computer to the phone since I don't have as much time to sit in front of the computer as I used to.

For example,
to sync a mobile device with the computer, it says to enable a sync server in the configuration dialog. Then sync from the mobile device.
But that asks for a username and password. I'm not really network savvy at all and my google searches have been unproductive so far, so just wondering where do I start to solve this puzzle?

Hello,

just set a username and password in the configuration dialog on the computer, then type that same username and password when trying to sync from your phone.
If everything goes correctly the cards will be copied to your phone.

After reviewing on your phone or on your computer, you can sync again, that will make the changes you have done on the computer and the phone up to date on both devices.

Kind regards
Gnome

Once again, sorry

but where do I find the configuration dialog? I am using Windows, if that helps. is it in the Control Panel?

Hi,

It's the settings of Mnemosyne itself, in the menubar 'Settings' - 'Configure Mnemosyne'.

Cheers,

Peter

Every time I try this, one of two things happens:

I change the password and sync:

the desktop reads "Client logging in..." and there is a green status bar that does not stop moving while the phone reads "Error: mismatched user ids. The first sync should happen on an empty database."

or

try to sync on the phone again and get the same "Error: mismatched user ids ..." message and this time the computer reads "Sync failed, restoring from backup. The next sync will need to be a full sync."

So does this mean that I have to delete my old cards to make this work now?

unfortunately, I deleted the old cards.

Then, I got confused not seeing anything and I think I found what was a backup. Some of the old cards reappeared. Now it won't work at all.
A box now appears that reads:

"An unexpected error has occurred.
Please forward the following info to the developers."

With what appears to be several lines of code below it.
Now I am very confused.

Hi,

First of all, make sure you are running the latest version, both on the desktop and on the phone.

Then, delete \sdcard\Mnemosyne on your phone and start again from scratch.

Cheers,

Peter

Yes, I uninstalled and went back and reinstalled 2.3.3 on the computer and I still get the same message again. It will not start up on the computer at all anymore.

It reads in full:

Hi,

We're you already running 2.3.4 when this started?

Are you running from an USB drive? If so, see here,

http://mnemosyne-proj.org/help/running-from-usb-drive.php

Try deleting C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mnemosyne\config* and also make sure you have write permissions in that directory.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi,

no it was 2.3.3, I am sure.

I had the permission and was able to get 2.3.3 back working the way it was.
But, now I am back to the original roadblock where syncing immediately brings the "mismatched user ids" message on the phone and the "Client logging in" on the computer that doesn't do anything at all unless I press Sync on the phone again and that brings the "Sync failed, restoring from backup" message on the computer.

Did you try deleting the entire /sdcard/Mnemosyne directory on your phone?

Cheers,

Peter

Try and use a file manager. There is a built-in one, but I personally use ES file explorer.

Cheers,

Peter

Thank you for trying to help me out. Is it possible for some reason they tapped the 2 phone s together. On my smart phone it's also Windows. And my HTC smartphone you can get the information from my old phone and I think also any smartphone. I just follow the instructions and lay down my phone on the other phone and it can get all information stored on the phone?

Hi,

I'm afraid Mnemosyne does not work on Windows Phone (that's different from the Windows you are running on your computer). Only Android phones are supported...

Cheers,

Peter

I guess what I'm wondering is if there is some sort of "Idiot's Guide" version of this page: http://mnemosyne-proj.org/help/syncing, because it's just not working for me.
