Hi,

I have been using Mnemosyne for some time and find it really useful -thanks! Most of the statistics seem to be working for me but the 'Cards learned' statistic shows that I have not learned any new cards in the past few months! I have graded some cards as 5 so when is a card added to those learned? There are some showing as having been learned about 9 months ago, but don't remember what I was doing at that time - I've had a break from using Mnemosyne since then, and may have upgraded the version. It's a bit demoralising to think that you haven't really learned any cards ;-).

Thanks,

Barbara

Hi,

This refers to cards you had never seen before and given a grade 2 or higher for the first time.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the quick response - but I was asking about the cards that the stats tell me I have learned - the page with the heading 'Number of new cards learned'. Are you saying that this only applies to new cards that were initially graded 2 or above - so that it never includes those that you initially graded 0 or 1? In other words, it's the cards you thought you already knew when you added them! If that's teh case I don't understand why this would be helpful.
Thanks, Barbara

Hi,

Sorry if I wasn't very clear: I meant cards starting out their life at 0 or 1, but graduating to 2 or higher. At that point they are considered 'learned'.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks Peter.

That makes more sense, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I usually start cards off as 'Not seen', then grade them after the first time they appear; some will go to 0 or 1, then get moved to a higher grade later, others will go directly from 'Not seen' to 2 or above. Is that why they never show up as learnt, and should I initially grade them as 0 for this to work?

Hi,

I created a test database, added a few ‘yet to learn’ cards, afterwards graded them 2, and they do show up under ‘cards learned’…

Can you try and see if this works for you too?

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,
Yes, that does work for me, so it must be something with my current database that's causing the problem. Maybe it's just that the the cards I've been learning recently are all ones that I've learnt before (and subsequently forgotten!) so that they've already been counted as learned. Is there a way of checking the dates that cards were added? Otherwise I'll just have to wait until I learn some of my more recently added ones to see if they show up.
Thanks for your help anyway.
Barbara

Hi,

Yes, for efficiency reasons, if you relearn a failed card, this is not counted in the statistics. You can check when a card was added in the card browser, or – for the current card – using the statistics window.

Cheers,

Peter
