[mnemosyne-proj-users] Sync not working on prerelease version 2.4.1-pre

Hello Peter,

syncing does not work, when I use the prerelease version (see link below). This error might also be due to me manually copying the database from my phone to the PC and the other way around though.

I have started the sync two time (right after each other) from my phone. I get these messages:

1.0 Creating backup... (on phone)
1.1 sync failed restoring from backup. the next sync will need to be a full sync
1.2 Could not connect to server! (on phone; after some seconds)

2.0 Creating backup (on phone)
2.1 sync failed restoring from backup. the next sync will need to be a full sync
2.2 Sync cycle detected. Sync through intermediate partner.
2.3 Could not connect to server! (on phone; after some seconds)

3.0 Added a tag to the database on the PC to change the database's date
3.1-3.3 same as in 2.

I have had another error too, but I can't reproduce it: Mnemosyne on the PC hung on "sending file" and the phone displayed "Can't connect to server" (eventhough it just connected to the server to start the sync).

Hi,

Please don't manually copy databases around. What happens if you delete /sdcard/Mnemosyne and then do a sync?

If the initial sync takes a long time, make sure the phone does not go to sleep during that process, e.g. by tapping the screen from time to time. A future version will keep the phone awake.

Hello Peter,

when I delete the folder /sdcard/Mnemosyne/, Mnemosyne on the PC displays: "Sending media files..."
The phone displays right after clicking "sync" (no time delay): "Could not connect to server"

Apparently I have tried this before. This is the error, I could not reproduce.

I am sorry for manually copying the files to my phone, I've done this, because I could not sync the normal way. I hope this will not break my database, for the worst case I still have a backup of the old database.

I'll be absent until this evening, so don't expect a quick response.

Hi,

Could you delete the Mnemosyne folder and try again with this version:

That way, the phone will print out more info about what's going on.

Hi,

This looks like it can be solved, so that's good news!

In order to find the most robust way to fix this, could you first send me privately your default.db file, and then delete default.db_media/_latex and try again with a sync from scratch?

Hello Peter,

I seem to get the same error again. I have deleted the _latex folder on Windows and the /sdcard/Mnemosyne/ folder prior to syncing.

OK, I have to figure out why '/' gets converted to '\\' on your machine and not on mine. I could implement a quick-and-dirty fix, but I'd rather identify the root cause first.

Hi,

Can you try with this version, after deleting /sdcard/mnemosyne ? https://www.dropbox.com/s/o01yko3kpldosm5/Mnemosyne-test.apk?dl=0

If you've done a full sync from phone to PC in the past, you might have ended up with two copies of files, i.e. A/B and A\B, which will get propagated back to your phone after a full sync. However, you should be able to delete the unused copy without problems.

I have installed the apk, but I get the message "Can't connect to server" without any debug information.

Hi Peter,

I have tried the updated version and I get the attached error. Mnemosyne does not seem to upload the media file (I have deleted the /sdcard/Mnemosyne/ folder).

After getting this error I have manually copied the media files and as a result I could successfully synchronize (restore by backup) .

I still a have the original copy of my database, so I could try again with another apk.

Hello Peter,

thank you for your great work! The synchronization works now!

0. I have deleted the /sdcard/Mnemosyne/ folder.

1. The first time I tried to sync, Mnemosyne on my phone crashed. (I have deleted the folder again and tried again, without any crash! :))

2. After this I've started Mnemosyne on my phone again and synchronized the databases successfully! :)
