Project Cognates = words that are quite similar in the language you want to learn

We are in the 3rd grade - 9 yr olds - here in Brussels, working on our first words and phrases to learn English. Everyone already speaks French - Dutch and we meet a lot of children from the international community, we can communicate with in English. Our kids are also confronted with English via computer games, which are a huge motivating source of learning- of course! :). " "Grab this for an extra power", what does that mean dad?" !

Quick wins are always very motivating. I was looking for a list of words that we have in common with English - Dutch, English -French. I came across an article from the wikipedia " cognate (linguistics) - Wikipedia " = words that are very similar in languages. Has anyone been so made a card set? I searched http://mnemosyne-proj.org/category/english, but found nothing.

And the idea is of course to expand it with techniques to help memorize stranger and stranger words by putting them in sentences that help you remember them. e.g. Dutch: citroen / English: lemon / French: un citron => Citron, on l'aime ou on ne l'aime pas. = pronounced "on Leme ou on leme pas => Lemon".
