Hi,
last couple month I intensively use Mnemosyne, but I have trouble with correctly rating cards I guess. I mainly study language vocabulary in both directions.
From my quick research I found, that I should focus on retention from 90-95%. My is like 80%, when I look at the last month.
I also read the recommendations about how to rate the cards, but apparently its not working out for me so well. Do you guys have a good methodically approach on how to proceed with the ratings?
I have especially a problem with rating new cards. Like some difficult cards I have a lot of repetition cycles already, but in a study session it stays often in my short-term-memory, so recarding that I should rate it high but regarding my long-term-memory I should rate it low. How should I know if I can remember this card tomorrow or in 2 days and how likely that is? This makes me crazy. :D
greeting Manu

Hi,

Perhaps reading “I'm worried I'm doing it wrong!” on https://mnemosyne-proj.org/help/getting-started.php will address some of your concerns.

I don’t think not reaching 90% retention is a problem, especially if you’re studying difficult materials.

Cheers,

Peter

I already read this multiple times. :D

What would you consider "difficult material"?
As I said, I study vocabulary. The languanges I study are familiar to me, just the vocabulary is new and I use both directions, so the memorizing effect should increase for the sister card. I would consider this as "easy material".

Perhaps you are studying too many cards? But in any case, I would not worry too much about this…

I try to learn like 10 new cards every day. Thats around 30min of learning every day. And I have all the basic settings.
active cards: 1100
not memorized: 300
sheduled: 0
So shouldn't be too many cards?!

Ok I will worry less!
I am also asking because I want to gradually(!) add another ~1000-2000 cards to study for a test, so I am especially concerned about the efficiency of my approach.
