G'day All,

This popped up in my newsletter feed this morning and I thought that some of you might find it interesting.

But this looks like just a laptop with a very low-end CPU (N100) without a keyboard. Why not just buy a proper laptop with a better CPU and save money and install Linux by yourself?

It comes with a clip on keyboard. I wouldn't buy one myself, it doesn't meet my needs for a tablet. I just found it interesting.

That expensive Linux laptop (Starfighter by Starlabs) that I was going to buy has been abandoned. Extremely powerful but does not use an Nvidia GPU which is highly recommended for AI related products but unclear if it is fully compatable for training AI models etc (without driver issues etc) as this laptop uses an embedded very powerful Intel GPU which is overkill for Linux O/S, but my needs are AI products related. To avoid spending $6k for a paperweight, I asked the small company if they could test to see if A1111 or Flux1-D can be installed without incompatability issues and they said they can't test unless there is a high demand of customers asking for the test of the specific programs. It appeared the small company didnt even know much about AI models (the popularity and usage of AI products are growing rapidly and companies should adapt and support or they will lose many customers).

You most definitely need nvidia for any ML/AI that isn’t geared towards any particular hardware already. Especially if you are a “try whatever is popular” and not building or customizing the models themselves.

I recently purchased a rtx4090 desktop for ML tasks for work, and it runs super well.

Skip any sort of cpu or amd based ones.

Yes I agree you really need CUDA cores and Nvidia GPU for AI stuff especially training models locally if you dont want to use online services
