Hi Guys! Don't know if something can help me out. I am quite new to Mininet-WiFi. I want to create a topology which is similar to vanet-sumo.py found in the examples repository. However, I want the script to make use of a remote controller such as RYU or POX. When I try to add the commands, unfortunately I am not able to get it working. Can someone maybe point me to what I am doing wrong or maybe to some examples of how I can do this. As I said I am quite new to this. I want to create sample manet traffic so that then through Python I can introduce other python scripts which would work on the controller.

Are you to mn-wifi and want yo work with vanet-sumo using a remote controller? That doesn't sound reasonable to me. You should start with the most basic steps before moving on to the more advanced ones.

Hi Ramon,

Yes in fact I am unfortunately. I used to use the normal mininet however not mininet-wifi.

I am trying to build a topology to use as an experiment in my thesis, however I ran across an issue where I am not understanding if it is possible or not, and if it is possible how and from where I should start.

Thanks!
Sergio

Sorry, you mean that you can use remote controller in mininet and you don't know how to do the same in mn-wifi? What do you think about starting replicating what you did in mininet?

Hi Ramon,

No that I managed. What I want to achieve in essence, is to use a remote controller such as POX or RYU for MANET traffic for example. I managed to create a basic topology and even modify some of the examples and include a remote controller and succeeded however I got lost when I try to figure out how to create an Urban Transportation emulation which would use an SDN controller such as POX or RYU.

Thanks!
Sergio

Hi Ramon,

By any chance do you know how can I simulate actual MANET or VANET traffic that can be seen through wireshark?

Thanks!
Sergio

Dear,

Could you be more clear with the questions? Honestly, I wouldn't expect to get questions about viewing data traffic on Wireshark.

Hi Ramon,

Sorry for confusing you. In reality, I would like to use a simulation such as vanetsumo.py, but instead of using the local controller make use of a remote controller. However, I am not entirely sure how to do this in this particular python script.

Given this, would it be possible to make use of a remote controller such as RYU or POX in a SUMO simulation?

Thanks
Sergio

Cannot you set RemoteController instead of Controller???

Hi Ramon,

Managed to do that and I am now using a remote controller... I had to modify a bit the code but I have made it successful.

However, for some reason I am noticing that SUMO is making use of IPv6, how can I enforce IPv4?

Thanks,
Sergio

Hi Ramon,

I am now using the remote controller as said in my previous comment. However, I have noticed that if I switch off the controller or the interfaces on the cars the simulation would still continue working which doesn't make sense. Can you help me out?

Thanks,
Sergio

I told you.. you should start with the simplest scenario. Unfortunately, people want to do things without learning the essence. Wireless is not the same as wired. Please visit related-topics and you will get the answer you need.

Hi Ramon,

Thanks very much for the link provided, I already gave it a look and I understood the interfaces much better.

However, if I try to break the communication as in v2i or v2v by for example turning off the interfaces of a particular vehicle, why do the cars continue moving in SUMO?

I want to be able to "break" the communication between 2 vehicles if it's possible.

Thanks,
Sergio

Hi Ramon,

I have reviewed the documentation and I have understood much more how SUMO and Mininet are working together and also what packets are being sent.

However, is the only traffic sent to the controller the location of the current vehicle? Hence, if a cyber attack is created on the sumo environment what would happen? Can an attack sort of "break" the VANET Simulation?

Thanks,
Sergio

Dear,

This is about control plane. I suggest you to go through the literature.
