Just checking to see who is still here a half year later. Was hoping for some activity. Begging for good news actually. I'm worried some may be purposefully avoiding posting their thoughts due to fear of reprisals from the Powers That Be. This "cancel culture" that has taken over the world is no joke. I totally get it. If my job or prospects was tied to towing the line I'd be right there in support of Communism lockstep with the rest of 'em. Or at least I'd remain quiet. Anybody with a job in Academia no doubt feels the need to be careful.

Crazy, crazy times. I'm still employed and have postponed retirement. All this money printing has me understanding I haven't saved enough money yet. Keeps the stock market propped up tho so my $ is safe enough I just need to have more because everything is fixing to cost more. I hope all of you are hanging in there. The few I know who've caught this virus felt like shit for a week or two and then fully recovered. I'm really ready to be done with this foolishness.

Happy New Year all! Still here, Don and my good news is that I am still here. Also, still employed and working from home which is my favorite place, so not so bad. Because I work in one of the ballot counting centers targeted with the election fraud "lie" it has been eye opening, the length these folks have gone to. Now there is speculation that the red hat "protest" in Detroit on election day was one of the dress rehearsals for the capitol breach. Certainly, the call to action and "protest" methods were the same although not as damaging in the D as our security forces held the line on much smaller crowds. Dealing with the media then was as exhausting as an auto show! Hoping the nation can survive as well as Detroit and Philly did. My friends in academia are contemplating moving to europe. That is starting to look pretty good, and as my grandparents immigrated from Ireland, I stand a chance for a successful dual citizenship. Good to have a contingency plan.

Beating too fast is better then not beating at all I always say! In music we call it "rushing." I need to get my ticker checked for sure. Home life is normal and boring and uneventful but I can't ignore what is going on in my own country. Seems we still haven't accepted the massive mistake of overreacting to the virus by shutting everything down. The overreaching effects of this boondoggle reaction have yet to be fully realized but the numbers of increased failed businesses and suicides and child abuse WORLD WIDE are just rolling in. It's devastating. Our leaders have even stopped pretending they don't plan to continue violating Constitutional rights of free assembly and arms bearing. Folks try to get a neighborhood discussion going on starting a local "watch" and the app Nazis freak out about "militias" and "domestic terrorism" and kick people out of the group. Crime is increasing at an alarming rate. Evidence suggests it is becoming more and more organized as our police are continually told to "stand down" and even when perps get busted they are back on the street within days if not hours. the Big Four(Google, Amazon, Apple and Facebook) have all banded together to get rid of another social networking site I've never heard of called "Parlor" because, they say, it helped start the Capitol riots. Evidence suggests that while it was certainly used that use paled in comparison to that used on.....Facebook and YouTube(Google) Imagine that. Big Tech banding together to get rid off potential competition. One wonders if politicians have a stake in these huge Tech companies. I am terrified the future will be Stazi-esque in nature. All the elements are there. Folks that were just at that rally/protest that never entered the Capitol or broke any laws are getting fired, losing clients, board positions and friends. I simply cannot believe what is happening and it makes me ill. All while rhetoric is heating up even further. I fear civil war. Too many have no notion of history and what can happen when you ignore what a people truly care about for an extended period of time. This corner is getting smaller and smaller and it's getting harder to breath.

I sure wish things were different. Meanwhile I'll just keep plodding along on my own little well worn piece of ground. Take care all.

Maybe it is coming from being slowly assimilated into the borg society,
One of my minor problems is I am retired, not wealthy but enough.
You are right the virus epidemic was poorly handled by government world wide wide. Now the population is also at fault. Washing hands, wearing a face covering to stop the spread if liquid droplets some of which contain the infectious virus. Stopping or containing the virus is important .. Social distancing also helps.
People not taking responsibility can effectively contain the spreading of covid-19 virus to around 97+ %
Freedom is not worth being sick.
As far as the economy changing. I for years now doa great deal of shopping online ..I go window shopping to get exercise (I actually live within the mall. Dirk a major Grocery store is around 250 meters away.
Yes life is changing, .at the same time  change is highly important for civilization. How and what changes are made will determine the future generations reality.

I am hoping that here in the US folks can begin to relax and the divisive rhetoric fall away to a more respectful sense of community. We probably won't go back to living with our doors unlocked like my parents' generation but working together cooperatively is essential for change that benefits us. Can we stop that impulse to think of the worst instead of the best in our immediate experience? Oppositional politics, even of an interpersonal nature, sometimes requires us to watch our own reactions and consciously choose to express the best thought instead of the worst when we relate to each other. Giving others the benefit of the doubt can require us to let go of our doubts. Not a bad thing at all, as those doubts can bring us down, especially self doubt.

I got a Parler account and was on it for a long minute before I realized that it was only about white supremacy, racism and violence and deleted my account. Wasn't sure what the purpose was until the right wing riots let up to the capitol insurrection. Testing before opening night. I'd love to think it will die down, we can come together and the need for protest will subside, but so many folks are terrified and in bad financial shape. We distributed 3.5 million pounds of food to local charities at the center since the pandemic began and businesses started shutting down. It made only a small dent in local food insecurity but effort is being made. Maybe if folks joined the effort to help instead of going after each other...

In times like these neighborhoods become unstable and stronger organization is needed. Even something passive, like distributing lists of "who to call" when people see something going on can be effective. A simple act that brings people together working for good, talking to their neighbors to relieve common need can go a long way.

Big tech will change out of necessity. I wonder if it doesn't reflect our individual inability to get along...
