All,

The OVSS contest in Cincinnati is coming up, two weeks away, September 18 and 19.

After several discussions with a number of you, I’m putting this out as most likely format for the two days.

Day one, Saturday September 18, AMA ALES, using “short tapes” 50 points, -5 per half meter.  Too easy to get those 50’s with a 6 foot circle;)

Day two, Sunday September 19, F5J “Lite”.  See the attachment below from rcgroups awhile back.  Exception to the attachment is that standard 150 meter cutoffs will be allowed with 10% penalty (150 meters scored as 165 meters).  Also, the AMA short tapes.  Do note, that moving toward full F5J that you will lose your landing points if you’re over in time.  Maximum time will be 600 seconds, so 10:04 and a 50 landing will be scored as 10 minutes, no landing points.

Goal both days, 6 rounds minimum.  Drop low score at round 6.

I’d like to transition to full F5J next spring for one day, following a day of ALES as above.  That means you’ll need to get a real F5J readout altimeter and be prepared for mass start, mass landing.  Please let me know your thoughts on full F5J.

Comments appreciated.  I’ll post this right away on rcgroups.

Barry

OK, here’s the final scoop.  ALES Saturday, AMA rules, AMA short tapes (5 points per .5 meter)

F5J Lite Sunday as per the chart sent previously.  Details as per the info below.  No telemetry in F5J.

No drop rounds.  New pedalions, thanks to Mark Groves for inspiration and Joe Sampietro for design and generating the 3D files.  Genuine PLA plastic medals through 5th, in gold, silver and bronze.

Cincinnati Aeromodelers field, update on conditions as we get closer.  Pilots meeting 8:30, first flight 9am.  6 rounds per day goal.

Hope you can find time to come and fly with your buddies.

Weather looks good with temps in the 80s and light wind.  The road to the field is in good condition, any expected rain today, Wednesday, should not effect the road.

Some clarifications about the contest.  Saturday will be AMA ALES using "short tapes".  All other AMA ALES rules will apply.

Sunday will be F5J Lite: this means, ALES limiters will be allowed with a 10% penalty.  Landing tapes will be the ALES short tapes.   All other F5J rules will apply.  Notably, after 4 rounds low round is dropped, at launch, the model must fly straight ahead for 3 seconds.  CD has discretion on landing direction.  It will be announced at the pilots meeting.
F5J matrix is random, it will be scored man-on-man, but not seeded.  Again, F5J rules…...

GliderScore will be used for both contests.

F5J rules and USA Tour rules can be reviewed at http://www.f5j-usa.com

Should be a great contest, please join us.

I thought you said in a previous email we were not doing the drop. I may be wrong, I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

Barry

Looking forward to flying with you on Saturday.  Have you selected the launch height for Ales?

Thanks

Hi Ron,

Very glad to hear you’re coming.  ALES launch height will be our usual 150 meters.  Sorry to not include that earlier.

Thanks to all who attended.  We were very fortunate to get good weather both days.  I’ve posted the results and some pictures by Joe Ruh on rcgroups.

Apologies for the “computer induced stress” on Sunday.   Some troubles with the audio on Sunday made the F5J Lite event a bit difficult to run smoothly.  Nevertheless we persisted!

Goal is a weekend contest in the Spring of 22 with AMA ALES Saturday and full F5J USA Tour event on Sunday.  Technical issues will be solved!

Keep ‘em flying

Barry

Thank you Berry for hosting such an enjoyable event.

Computer-induced stress is a thing we all know about and will know again in the future.
