Yesterday afternoon within the space of five minutes I saw three "first of spring" birds (at least for me) at at E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area:

An Osprey was hovering over the angling pond area, but moved off to the south, perhaps because of two Bald Eagles perched near the pond.

As I turned north, a Band-tailed Pigeon came flying low, right over me. And right after that, I noticed a small flock of Tree Swallows.

Last and least (in terms of size), this morning a female Rufous Hummingbird turned up at our feeder.

In the prairie areas, Camas has been putting up leaves. Meadow Checkermallow is sending up spikes of flower buds, which the deer love to snack on. Black Cottonwood and some types of willows are also blooming -- happy pollen season!

Today we saw a pair of Eared Grebes on the beaver pond at Bald Hill, which is along the paved path off Oak Cr Dr.

That’s great!  The beaver pond has certainly increased bird diversity along the trail over the last couple years. There were two (maybe three?) Common Mergansers there almost a week ago.
