Hi Nathan
Firstly, great work in getting the MacOS edition to this stage.So, I downloaded the Installer to my 2017 MacBook Air (1.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, 128 GB SSD) running Monterey. I initially tried running it under a non-admin user. I then got a "The "python.3" command requires the command line developer tools. Would you like to install the tools now?" message. I hit install, and it then told me I needed 20Gb of disk space for that, and I only had 15Gb spare, so I then proceeded to clear some disk space, and then had another go. At the end of the install of the developer tools, that install appeared to fall over. Looking at the disk space it doesn't appear to have used 20Gb, and I can't see that the developer tools have installed (where should look?). I guess that the developer tools are a prerequisite? They don't appear to be referred to in README.txtI then switched to an admin user. Running Install.sh took about 2 hrs 40 mins, but that might have been influenced by the fact that the MacBook was running on wifi and attempted a couple of Time Machine backups during the process, which normally slows the MacBook and my network down a bit (the TM is on a NAS), and which I cancelled when I saw they were happening. On three occasions I was asked for my sudo password, and I also got a "Do you want the application "openssl" to accept incoming network connections?" message, which I Allowed.After it appeared to download Money2005-UK-QFE.exe, Install.sh fell over, with the the following:./Install.sh: line 360: /opt/homebrew/bin/gdown: No such file or directoryand then went back to the command prompt. That threw me because, as I say, it appeared to be downloading Money2005-UK-QFE.exe, in the same way as it had downloaded all of the other software ("No installer found. Downloading Money2005-UK-QFE2.exe...")That prompted me to go back to README.txt and I then saw that I needed to place a copy of Money2005-UK-QFE.exe into the moneyinstall folder myself. Which I then did, and then re-ran Install.sh, which took less than five minutes and successfully installed Money, which I've now used to open sample.mny. I'll try it with my Money file later.You'll see that the righthand side of the Account screen is slight truncated, with no horizontal scroll bar.

msmoneysetup_MacOS_FullInstall_07Apr2025.ziphttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1ctSz4l8EnrJJSY1EkdK9IAzBCs7RrauF/view?usp=share_linkHi everyone,This version uses macports instead of home brew to download wine and all the dependencies. Home Brew just seemed like there were issues too often, and it would put files in different places depending on Intel or Apple Silicon; too many moving pieces. Now, there is an additional installation script (it detects which MacOS, which platform, which is the latest MacPorts package, and downloads/installs them) in the new macports folder and I decided to keep that code separate from the main Install.sh script. This file isn't run directly, you still only need to run Install.sh. I'm hoping this will be quicker than the 3 hours it takes on the Intel Macs. It should be more reliable to install since everything goes into /opt/local/bin whether it's an Intel or AppleSilicon. It also seems like there's less compiling and more downloading compiled packages than with Home Brew.One more step in the guide: after Money runs the first time and it's closed, check the terminal for one more password entry. This moves MSMoney.app to Applications. It's easy to think the installation is finished once you close Money the first time.Nathan

Hi Nathan
Just wanted to say thank you for all of your efforts to get Money working on MacOS, using Wine. It installs on my Intel Mac in around 43 minutes.
For the benefit of others, I just wanted to explain my rationale for wanting to run Money on Mac, but without having to use Boot Camp. Like others, I first started using Windows in the early 1990s, discovered Money, and have remained loyal to Money as I think it's just a best-in-class solution, particularly for someone who doesn't want to put their financial life in the cloud.
About 15 years ago I stated to explore Macs. When Microsoft appeared to be losing their way with Windows (Windows 8!), having optionality with MacOS made sense. And, notwithstanding the increased cost, the concept of a single manufacturer producing (controlling) both the hardware and the OS seemed to make sense, particularly given the vulnerabilities that Windows was seeing. But I was locked into the world of Windows in order to continue to run Money. If you've got an existing Windows PC, it doesn't seem particularly smart to buy an additional Windows licence to put it on a Mac using Boot Camp,
So, I have a MacBook because I think they are good laptop
devices, and accepted that I would only run Money on my home Windows PC.
But now the ability to run Windows on the MacBook - for zero additional cost,
and with minimal complexity - means that I can take Money on the road with
me. Moreover, if I don't want to have to remain on the Windows PC upgrade
path (say, having to replace a Windows 10 PC with a Windows 11 PC, because the
Windows 10 PC doesn’t have a TPM 2.0 chip) I have some certainty that I can
continue to run Money in a supported environment, without having to continue to
run an old PC/unsupported operating system, just to run Money.
Thank you again.
Bill
I have been using MS Money since 2002, first on a Windows PC and then on a MacBook with VirtualBox Windows 10. It has been a little cumbersome, but it has worked, and in any case, I do not know how I would manage without MS Money after all these years. I have been following this thread for some time, generally thinking that perhaps I wasn't experienced, or knowledgeable enough to implement your installation, but I have just bought a new MacBook Air M4 and I thought perhaps it was time to give it a try.
I must say I am terrified of doing something wrong a becoming unable to use the software, so I wonder if I could trouble you to answer a couple of very basic questions from someone who does not know very much. I have downloaded the installer and was getting ready to follow Nathan's Microsoft Money Full Guide (MacOS), but before I make any mistakes, I thought I would ask:1. I would like to install Money on two different MacBooks a Macbook Pro 2016 running MacOS Monterey, and a MacBook Air M4 running Sequoia - will this installation work on both of these? I believe I am using Money 2005 UK.
2. If I succeed, will I be able to use and update my accounts (files) on both Macbooks?
3. When you say on 1.3 of your Full Guide "Move the msmoneysetup folder to your home folder, which "home folder" are you referring to?
export WINEPREFIX=~/msmoneyprefix
which I changed toexport WINEPREFIX=~/.msmoneyprefix
Then winecfg works as expected. (I guess the prefix directory name has been changed to make it hidden, maybe this winecfg.sh is an old version?)
Anyway, the entry in 'Existing overrides' for comctl32 was
*comctl32 (builtin)
I removed that entry, and ran Money. This time the subtotals on the Account List were correctly located, and unfortunately 'change transaction match' still hangs.
I thought it might be possible to see which comctl32.dll msmoney.exe was using, with
$ lsof -p `pgrep msmoney.exe` | grep comctl32.dll
msmoney.e 79721 alan txt REG 1,14 1054208 6228696 /Users/alan/.msmoneyprefix/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Money 2005/MNYCoreFiles/comctl32.dll
I re-instated the above (builtin) override in winecfg and re-ran Money. This time I see
$ lsof -p `pgrep msmoney.exe` | grep comctl32.dll
msmoney.e 80408 alan txt REG 1,14 5341980 5776234 /opt/local/lib/wine/i386-windows/comctl32.dll
and the subtotals are displaced to the right. So I think that shows that it's now using the builtin comctl32.dll. But I'm afraid 'change transaction match' still hangs. I've also found that 'Balance this account' hangs when you click the "Next" button in the window that pops up. (So far this always happens, same as the 'change transaction match' hang)
So I'm wondering what else I could try? Maybe the fact that I'm running the 2005 UK version of Money is a factor?
Regards, Alan

Hi Nathan,
Hi Nathan,Thank you for your continuing efforts to get MSMoney to work on MacOS.Having read your recent updates, it sounds as if it may be a while before you're able to complete your project, so I think I should probably consider an alternative option for my MacBook Air M4 in the meantime. I have done several searches online and if I have understood it correctly, it looks like the only option would be to buy Parallels for Mac and download Windows 11 ARM, but I wanted to check with you first that there would be no hiccups with this. As I have mentioned to you before, on my old MacBook, I have been using MS Money 14.0.120.1105 2004 (which I believe is the same as 2005 UK) on VirtualBox + Windows 10 Your comments would be greatly appreciated.Thanks again,ChitiOn Friday, 27 June 2025 at 13:55:45 UTC+1 gia...@gmail.com wrote:Hi Chiti,I used to use crossover before I learned how to use wine directly.Crossover is basically an older version of wine with a nice user-friendly interface on top.What my installer does is accomplished more elegantly with Crossover. Actually, the Crossover developer (Codeweavers) contributes a lot of code and improvements back into wine.Unfortunately, the manual steps you need to take to support Microsoft Money in crossover is more difficult than the way I do it with my installer. For example , it will be very difficult to install IE7 because of Mac not supporting 32 bit bottles/prefixes. I looked into this back in February or so.You’re certainly welcome to try it, and it does have a free trial so you can take it for a spin. However, even if you can get MSMoney installed it will operate the same way, including the hangs. The problem is with the wine code underneath.It’s not a very good option, but if you were able to export your accounts and import into Money Sunset then you could continue to use Money with my installer. I would think that setting up a VM is probably easier.Sorry I don’t have a better answer.NathanOn Jun 27, 2025, at 9:06 PM, Chiti Lloyd <chiti...@gmail.com> wrote:Hi Nathan,Than you for your message. That is disappointing.I am reluctant to go through the whole palaver of installing VirtualBox on my new MacBook, but I need to find a way to use MSMoney on it.
