Thank you, Paul, for facilitating the slides you presented yesterday.

This week is Thanksgiving Holiday, and with many MPWG members' HQ in the USA, your request to use the 2022 marketing budget by Nov. 28th ought to be held off.  Instead, I recommend next week's Steering Committee call allocates enough time for such discussion while welcoming this week's feedback via writing arriving from MicroProfilers, not enjoying OOO.💛

The background below aims at providing everyone with the context of what has been expected with the usage of 2022 marketing money as seen via diverse closed git issues, open issues, and many recorded conversations in the community and marketing calls while everyone patiently awaited the successful shipment of 2021 Members' swag to be completed... public arrivals such as Jelastic tweet and private confirmations.  Furthermore, 2 weeks ago, the 2021 shipping task's retrospective was finally provided by Emerson.

MP has promised and gathered information from many of its:
  1. Most active Contributors:  2 shirts, 1 hoody, & 100 stickers
  2. 53 Committers: 2 shirts, 1 hoody, & 100 stickers.        (106 shirts + 53 hoodies + 5300 stickers)
  3. Steering Committee Members: 50 shirts & 300 stickers ( 500 shirts when adding Primenton + 3,000 stickers)
The 2022 designs approved ##712 should be adjusted next week to include Primeton Technologies.
After yesterday EMO's 2023 MPWG budget draft presentation (the 30-minute presentation was not recorded), we learned that:
  1. Marketing Services are introduced as a settled cost in the 2022 budget (pages 6 and 8) that was not explicitly stated on the approved budget or quarterly financial reports
  2. Primenton Technologies' is a 2022 Member of MPWG, and its 5 monthly membership fees must be included in the budget.

💛

If you have any questions or input let me know. We need to close this out no later than Monday so it is included as a 2022 expense.

Hi Amelia,

I will respond first to say that company / member logos on shirts or hoodies is not possible, we need permission to do that which we do not have. Our approach is the working group logo, and the Eclipse foundation logo on the back or the sleeve. There have been exceptions, going forward we do need to align with the practice of not including company /  member logos.

We will look into adjusting the order to be a combination of hoodies, t-shirts and stickers based on available budget.

As I mentioned in the deck, we need the steering committee to name a rep (and an alternate) that is on point to provide shipping instructions in 2023.

Also, as Sharon mentioned on the call, we expect to have the Q3 budget update out shortly which will reflect new member revenue as well as funds remaining for the order.

Thanks ... Paul

Further to my attached email, the revised order will be remixed as requested (hoodies, t-shirts, stickers)  like what is shown below. Note that it will be increased to exhaust remaining 2022 marketing budget so actual numbers will be higher.

Hello all,

After yesterday's steering committee meeting, we decided to continue collaborating via this thread to purchase the ~ $13,500 --  2022 swag before 2023 ends. Its shipping shall be completed with the 2023 marketing budget in Q1-2023.

The 3 tasks below belong to MicroProfilers:
  1. Mingyue- Primeton -  approves the usage of its logo in 2022 MPWG swag.
  2. Ryan (TT designer) -  integrates Primeton into the designs, and the review is completed with Mingyue's approval
  3. Emerson -  delivers the final designs + mock-ups and swag desired sizes, plus stickers, to the EF Team
2 tasks belong to the EF team:
  1. Paul - Investigates if, aside from the verbal approval motion from minutes dated 11/29, the WG still needs to provide further approval to the EF to allow their company logos' usage in 2022 swag.
  2. Marketing team - purchase the ~$13,500 worth of hoodies, shirts, and stickers via Swag.Com based on sizes provided.
If anything is missing, etc...  please collaborate on this thread or/and the git issues added.🙏

Hi Paul,

There was follow up discussion on the Steering Committee meeting this Tuesday and Paul Buck did an excellent job of explaining that the Foundation hasn’t collected sufficient permission from the Working Group members to use their logos in the scope of swag/clothing.

The Steering Committee was very understanding of the Foundation’s legal concern.  A unanimous resolution was passed by the Steering Committee granting the foundation permission to use our logos on swag.  This was passed knowing it would likely be legally insufficient, but there was hope this would show agreement that this is important for the members and willingness to cooperate in providing the necessary permission.

Is it possible to have a discussion with the Foundation on how we members could provide permission to use our logos on swag produced by the Working Group?

It would be understood that there would be some legal spend to create the necessary document granting permission each of us would have to sign.  That might also mean this year’s money goes to legal rather than swag.  Though we would miss out on this year’s swag, it could help other Working Groups as well and next year is right round the corner.

Amelia,

Paul Buck has already explained earlier in this thread our policy is that we do not include corporate logos on any Eclipse working group clothing or other working group swag items.  Please do not ignore these explanations of our processes and policies that are intended to guide how our working groups operate - it is not constructive.

Hi,

Following up on my previous email, the full order amount in $'s and items is the image below (5000 stickers, 600 t-shirts, 120 hoodies).

Once the order is placed, we will be provided with artwork for approval that I will share with you on this thread. The artwork is: MP logo (yellow stylized "M" + MICROPROFILE) on the chest. EF on the sleeve).

These items will be distributed based on the working group's needs in 2023, we are looking for the Steering Committee to name a representative (and alternate) to provide the shipping instructions as they are known.

Thanks ... Paul

Hello all,

Following up on Paul's message with some mockup designs. The final designs won't be available until after the order has been submitted, but you can get a feel for what these will look like:

Hi Clark,
Thank you for the follow up! We discussed the swag ideas on today's MicroProfile Live hangout. Based on today's detailed community discussion on Re: [microprofile-wg] 2022 Marketing Proposal, it was agreed that we would look at the possibility of skipping the printing of t-shirts. Instead, 2022 expenditure is desired by the Members on two items.
  • Hoodies (with a few 2XLs added)
  • MP coffee cups (new item)

If the MP cups are a possible suggestion, we would be happy to provide ASAP the cup design with LARGE M.
If the MP cups are impossible, 100% of the budget for Hoodies is also attractive for Members, as the desired font is shown below.

2022MP Hoody approved designs

  • The hoody folder contains the following:
  1. Mockups
  2. PDF
  3. Pantone colors
  4. ai

The 2021 hoody design - and past printed hoodies have had the same front print that includes MicroProfile and is while accepted as well.

Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions. Very much appreciated for your help!

Thanks

Emily

Hi Emily,

Thanks for the note. In discussing this internally, with the holidays approaching, it makes the most sense to focus on the hoodies. The original deadline for getting the order finalized was December 1.

We will remove the t-shirts and increase the number of hoodies to utilize the budget and proceed with getting the order in place.

Thanks and happy holidays!

Clark

Hi Clark,
May I ask why the logo will be so small on the front of the shirt? In the past we had it across the chest and feel that is much more bang for the buck for promotional purposes.
Some suggestions:
