GRSF Summer Count

The 2026 Summer Count/metalmark census is a week from Saturday, should we all survive the current heat dome.

At the moment, I have only 3 confirmed participants. 

To cover our existing metalmark territories -- let alone explore for more -- we need at least 10. 

If you haven't already done so, please pop a response here or to me individually.  I'll probably make a go/no go decision on Monday based on responses.

  

I should also probably announce here what I've told a number of you privily -- I just turned 70 over the weekend (!! how did that happen??) and will be looking for someone(s) to assume organizing the spring and summer GRSF counts.  It's not that I don't love spending time in the field with y'all, and I'm not ready to sit on the porch and spy on the neighbors just yet -- although that is entertaining in its own right. It's just I have other bucket list projects and travel in mind.

Great news. Walt reports that metalmarks are flying, FWIW  

Hopeful we will have enough participants by tomorrow cob. Currently we don’t. 

Speaking of weather — Weather all week (from today’s perspective) is decidedly unsettled, with ~50% chance of some sort of precip every day through Saturday. Sunday looks marginally better. 

Fallback of course is that folks visit on their own over the next 2 weeks, and record their observations in iNat or eButterfly. Not the ideal concerted effort but should still give DNR an idea of population trends for metalmarks, and for the occasional Delawares we spot as well.
