Pronounced colloquially “Blue Mash,” the land was inhabited by freed slaves who also made it a stop on the Underground Railroad, hiding runaway slaves on their way north. The blue stars and gold stripes logo of the Laytonsville golf course refers to the property’s historic function as a stop on the long journey to freedom”
