1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg5.jpgThis was yesterday mid-am, next to Severn River.  The hawk was well above the tops of a large treed area next to the river.  Large group of vultures nearby.

The hawk seemed oddly pale/gray to me as opposed to buff.  I initially assumed it was not a coopers because it seemed so pale/gray which made me lurch for the camera.  Could have been the lighting I suppose.

Odd behavior noted:  Did several very fast diving/swooping motions towards the canopy, while still well above it.  The tail feathers remained closed at all times.

I want it to be a Goshawk but that's personal bias.  Sibley says "in breeding season, (both coopers and goshawks) often fly with white under tail coverts conspicuously flared" as they are here.

Thanks very much for any level of certainty.1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg5.jpg

Cooper's because the undertail coverts are white. Northern Goshawk has streaked undertail covedts.
