Anyone using a plugin/add on such as After Codecs to be able to output anything useful directly from After Effects?

Just wondering if it's worth the money, or if there's a better option people would suggest (other than not using AE at all).

Blows my mind you now have to buy a third party solution to do what used to be possible right out of the box, but I'm sick of having to go through Media Encoder every time I want to output a movie file, plus you don't get to save any of your output settings with the AE project for when you come back a year later and can't remember what the hell you did. Big shout out to Adobe.

Does that have a plug-in for AE, or is it just a standalone converter?

A quick look at the website doesn't make that obvs......

I’ve never used ffmpeg but has a command line so that’s nifty.

Yeah I just write jpeg sequences out of AE, and then use ffmpeg from the command line.

ffmpeg.exe  -i info_wall.%04d.jpg ~/Videos/info_wall.mp4

I of course never miss a chance to spruik houdini, I'm using its task graph (tops) to run ffmpeg for me. I point it at a folder full of image sequences, it parses the shot name from the sequence, and then makes a mp4 for each sequence it finds.

You can do all that without tops of course, but it's nice to make a little reusable network and have it ready to go for whatever kind of images or stuff you might generate.

Never mind, I found this:

What is the Voukoder? Voukoder is system wide video- and audio encoding service for Windows that improves your media encoding experience. It supports various encoders (both CPU and GPU based) and also provides a set of post processing filters.Currently supported are: • DaVinci Resolve 17 • Adobe Premiere (CS6 and later) • Adobe Media Encoder (CS6 and later)
Free, very easy to install and so far I'm blown away as it's able to output H264 to both .mov and .mpeg files directly from Ae's render queue, and seems about 10x faster than the rubbish that is Media Encoder.

For a moment I was excited as it can also output to Animation, but alas also does not offer any quality settings like Ae used to have.
