Hi David,

How to use MM Solver in stereo camera and Object Tracking.

Hello,

For a stereo solve you would have 2 Markers (1 under each left/right camera), and single Bundle with both Markers linked.

I don't think the Load Markers tool automatically links

To link multiple markers and bundles, use the "Link Marker and Bundle" tool:

An example setup is here:

In the screenshot above I have deleted the second bundle ("bundle2_BND"), renamed the markers, and then re-linked both the markers to the same bundle.

Also, in the example I have the right camera under the left camera. This allows you to solve the secondary camera relative to the left (hero) camera, and you can solve offsets for the right camera, as you need.
Other than the Markers and Bundles being linked, if you are only solving an object, there is no extra setup that I am aware of.

P.S. You can easily tell if a Marker and Bundle are linked in two ways...

1) In the Solver UI, click the "BND" button to show linked bundles.

2) Select a Marker or Bundle, and click the "Toggle Marker/Bundles button", or "Select Markers and Bundles" buttons.
Linked Markers and Bundles will be toggle selected. If you use the mmSolver hotkeys, this is also available as the "m" and "n" hotkeys.

Thanks David, this is a good procedure for stereo solving in mmSolver.

In the old days when we were doing lots of stereo native solving we would have asked for a modification of the 3DE Copy Tracks tool.

Since 3DE keeps track of the stereo pairs, the mmSolver 3DE CopyTracks tool should also check the stereo flag in 3DE and if enabled copy/paste both sets of 2D left/right tracks in one step.

But since stereo native solving is uncommon these days, modifying your existing tool for stereo probably is not worth your time.

It just means that currently for stereoscopic, the artist has to do some extra clerical work for Marker left/right.

Hi Michael,

Exactly, The tools could better support a stereoscopic workflow, but at the time I didn't see it as common-place and so I didn't dedicate time to a less-used workflow - mmSolver can solve multi-cameras problems and is designed to have the functionality at it's core.
The number of possible workflows is infinite, and my time is finite ;)

Off topic...
The tools shown are pretty easy to script together, so a user/studio can optimize their workflow - even just as simple as assigning the scripts to a hotkey (note the documentation always lists "Python code" to run).
The Python API is also pretty simple to use and greatly speeds up the implementation of tools.

If anyone does write code, it would be nice to contribute those changes back to the project - from a selfish perspective the code becomes my problem to maintain and fix if there are issues - from an altruistic perspective the code is used to better the industry tools available to everyone and helps the craft of VFX move forward.
