Experts comments on the following for any precautionary measured to be taken

Tube Matl--- ASS 316L

 Dimension--- Dia 38.1 X 4.06 mm thick

  R/D ratio=1

Cold bending followed by Solution Annealing ( Water or Air quencing, advice required to choose Air or Water),

Followed by IGC as per A262 Practice E

I have mostly seen Tube manufacturers follow water quenching after Solution Annealing.

Only care you can take is ensure chloride content of water upto 25ppm max. and water quenching to be done immediately and should not exceed more than 3 minutes after SA.

Are u referring to u-tubes? Solution annealing in the furnace may cause distortions, which affects tube insertion into bundle skeleton. You can use electrical resistance heating to heat the u bend portion plus some 50 to 75 mm on both straight lengths. On attaining the solution annealing temperature apply a blast of air to quench it. Usually possible in 2 minutes to bring to less than 375 degree C. Can purge with nitrogen or argon to prevent scaling inside. A mock up on a similar piece is helpful to establish the parameters - current, heating time, volume and time duration of air blast, tube thinning, ovality, etc. IGC test at electric contact zone may also be considered. Extra care required during bending of R= 38.1 to prevent OD collapse. Liquid penetrant test on the entire heated zone advisable.

Why you don't follow the approach described in ASME BPVC Section VIII-1 / UHA-44?

Dear Sir,

Pl refer PG 19 of ASME SEC I OR UHA 44 of ASME SEC VIII DIV 1 before deciding Heat treatment . The strain and  service temperature , both shall be considered .

for 4.06 mm thk, Blat of air should suffice  and so the distortion etc
Do a mock up test and plan accor
