Material Inspection Acceptance

Dear Expert,

I have difficulties regarding material inspection. Now client reject my material inspection due to thinner plate not same with DO? for examples plate purchase 10mm now coming around 9.75mm, which code can I am refer to?

Dear Helmy, 

If your plate is SA 36 then you can refer to SA6 where an under tolerance is provided which is 0.01 of an inch. 

However, I suggest you have a word with your design engineer & enquire about the minimum design thickness, if the design thickness is 9.75 mm then there is no need to worry about it & the plate can be accepted.

What is your plate material specification? 

Material specification always refers to General specification requirements for plate size, dimensions, straightness as well as physical & mechanical properties.

For example if your material is SA 516 then you can find general requirements in SA 20 for all the tolerances and deviations.
