Essential Variable (SMAW) - Trade Name

Dear All,

I have a doubt from ASME Sec. IX as mentioned below , please clarify.

Welding Process : SMAW

Electrode used in PQR : E7018-1 (Kiswel)

Toughness Test : Applicable 

So as per Table (QW-253) - QW 404.12 is supplementary essential variable 

Electrode available Now : E7018-1 H4 (Oerlikon) & this has to be used in production now.

Suggest whether the manufacturer of welding consumable can be changed  with same electrode classification or new PQR has to be Qualified.

I consider that you should not do a new PQR since both electrodes are the same F number.

No new qualifications is required

You can proceed and no new PQR to be qualified.

Only when you use an G classification electrode/Filler, Trade name is a supplementary essential variable. In your case change in Trade name will not affect & no need to qualify new PQR. WPS shall reflect the electrode/Filler with optional designator to be used in production
