Dear All,

pls. go through the below scenario and provide your feed backs.

thanks.

Job Details : -

1.       Material               :               SA516 Gr.70N + UNS N 08825. ( 40+3 mm)

2.       PWHT                    :               Yes

3.       Impact                  :               Not required

4.       Vessel Size          :               ID-910 mm ; TL to TL -2000 mm

5.       Opening size      :               6”

6.       Overlay welding is for corrosion resistance only. Not considered in design thickness.

Background  : Since there is no accessibility to do the overlay welding on closing Circ seam (Cat – b). So I have to include the clad thickness in the butt joint. I.e ( 5-6 mm GTAW root with ER NICrMo-3 & Rest with SAW EM12K)

Query : I have two PQR as below mentioned, Can I combine both PQR to do the above butt welding?

PQR 1 :-

1.       Material               :               SA 516 Gr.70 + UNS N 08825 TO SA 516 Gr.70 + UNS N 08825

2.       Thk                      :               13 + 3 mm

3.       Process                :               GTAW

4.       Consumable      :               ER NiCrMo – 3 (F – 43)

5.       PWHT                    :               Yes.

PQR 2 :-

1.       Material               :               SA 516 Gr.70N TO SA 516 Gr.70

2.       Thk                         :               38 mm

3.       Process                :               SAW

4.       Consumable       :               EM12K (F – 6)

5.       PWHT                    :               Yes.

Hi,

You cannot combine these two PQRs for your job, please click the below link to see earlier discussions in this group for cladded pipe/vessel butt weld joints.

regards,

LALU
