Fw- whether 99.99% Ar gas can be used for welding FCAW on carbon steel

Dear All,

Kindly advice whether we can use 99.99% Ar gas for welding of FCAW process on carbon steel,as one of our customers is insisting for the same, we have informed them that it is not possible as there will fusion problems,also the weld will not be sound weld. Pure Argon can be  used for welding of Stainless steel, aluminium.

Please provide  some interpretation or code reference through which we can convince client.

In many occasions I have pointed out that the Code is not a hand book. You will look for in vain to find such a recommendation in the Code.

The best tool is the filler metal manufacturer's recommendation and the AWS prequalified WPSs
