Preheating and PWHT for B31.3 CS mtls

Whats the thickness shall be done with PWHT CS material as per B31.3 latest edition .
Here the joint is  branch weld of high thickness weldolet with low thickness pipe.

If both thickness are under 25mm (1”), the PWHT can be exempted if you preheat to 95 C (or 200F) minimum.

 

If the weldolet exceeds 25mm, you need PWHT at 595 ~ 650C for 1hr/25mm.

Hi,

As per ASME B31.3 Edition2014, there is the exception for PWHT for P1 Carbon steel materials. Please see the below extract.

As per the attached requirement from B31.3.2014 edition PWHT tequirement .the thickness considered is the lesser of the two parts joining .
Does it means if one of the parent metal is of below 25 mm PWHT not required.?

Please refer 331.1.3 Definition of Thicknesses Governing PWHT.

Thickness shall be considered for the joints after edge preparation. For dissimilar thickness, you should consider the thickness at bevel edges.
