Hi All,

I have a question regarding EN 10204 3.1 certificates that I was hoping you could help me with.

We are an ISO certified company, but a client is requesting that we provide them with a certificate containing our company logos and letterheads etc. but we do not make the part. We import them, and therefore the certificate contains the sub-vendor’s details. Would it be legal for us to change the sub-vendors details and replace them with ours? Or should we just inform the client this is not allowed? We run pressure tests and various other tests on the parts, but i'm not sure if this changes anything.

I can’t seem to find any information regarding this type of question, and I would be most grateful for any help regarding this query.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Lauren Gosling

Dear Lauren,

According EN 10204 the original manufacturer should be mentioned on the certificate, once you change the information without mentioning the original manufacturer the required traceability of the material is lost and therefore not acceptable. Some companies use their own logo/letterheads, scan the original document and put this in a reduced size on their own document. Problem is that sometimes terrible copies become fully unreadable due to this action.

Another opportunity is to create your own certificate with reference to the original manufacturers certificate, you can take all the information from the original certificate but must refer to this certificate and also included a copy to your own certificate.

I don’t know why your customer is requiring such but it’s not normal practice and only may confuse people by creating extra documentation.

Met vriendelijke groeten / Best Regards,

Dear Lauren,

If you are a manufacturer for valves you may issue again a 3.1 or 3.2 certificate indicating the chemical, mechanical and pressure test values.

If you are a pressure vessel manufacturer, you may not issue the above, only the test reports as per ASME AI approved after endorsing with Client can be produced and acceptable.

3.1 or 3.2 certificates only can be issued for the metallic material products like plate, pipe, fittings and valves by the manufacturers.

For any other equipments, 3.1 or 3.2 certificates will not be issued, test reports only can be produced based on the approved formats (whichever attached in the test  procedures and ITP) from Client prior to start manufacturing.

Hope the above helps to convince your Client.

With kind regards
Govindan Perumal

Dear Lauren,

You can issue your own certificate in 3.1 format for only those test carried out at your location (pressure and any other tests) on your final product or on the bought out imported part.
For the tests which are carried out on the imported part by your overseas manufacturer you can ask him to provide his material certificate in compliance to the requirements of EN 10204:3.1 certification.
This certificate number, for the imported part, you can include in your final certificate in 3.1 format for the entire product.

Regards,

PARAG PANSARE
