Hello ;

We work for welding activity pipeline 12”         X52       thickness 8.38 mm

Root / hot pass      GTAW

Filling / cap            SMAW

In order to optimize production Contractor propose to proceed with GTAW  first ,   for example for he weld  first 10 weld joint GTAW  after that he come back tomorrow  with and filling and cap  weld joint with SMAW.

It’s some issue for that    ?

Hi,

There is no issue here, Root & Hot passes are essential variables at piping.
You can do.

Dear Sir, Check your WPS whether it is single heat cycle or 60% of the thickness to be weld before welding going to stop, in our project min 60% to be weld shall be completed.
Thanks & Regards

Hi,

There is no problem, need  to do atleast  half thickness or hot pass which ever is greater before removing the clamp/before interruption of weld.
