Dear Experts,

Need your clarification on the following,

When the PQR(GTAW+SAW) is qualified with (Pno-1 Group no 1) with (Pno-1 Group no 2).-With impact test.

As per Sec IX, G number will be essential variable when toughness requirement is there, So can i prepare WPS for the same p number and same group number within themselves?
Like, 1)  Pno1, Group no 1 to Group no 1
          2)  Pno1, Group no 2 to Group no 2,

or is there any other suggestions to cover all groups?

Thank you..

Dear

If you have toughness test in this case you shall quilefy group number 1 with group number 2 and as ASME IX this will qualify G1to G2. G1 to G1 and also G2 to G2. For example if you have pipe(G1) and fitting (G1) and you have flange(G2) is not accepted to qualify pipe to fitting but the correct way is to weld pipe with flange or fitting with flange for procedure qualification.

Hi,

You can input in your WPS like below

P. No.1 Gr. No. 1&2 to P. No.1 Gr. No. 1&2

and it will cover all.

Thanks!

Hi,

You already have a PQR for P1 Group 1 with P1 Group 2, and you performed an impact test.
According to ASME IX - QW 403.5, you can make the WPS as follows:

  1. P-No.1 Gr.1 with P-No.1 Gr.1
  2. P-No.1 Gr.2 with P-No.1 Gr.2
  3. P-No.1 Gr.1 with P-No.1 Gr.2

Or you can combine them like this:
P-No.1 Gr.1,2 to P-No.1 Gr.1,2

Dear

In this case your material MTC should achieve both group (G1&G2)  for example some times we receive material like ASTM A516 achieve both groups (grade 65&70) in this case you can write in the WPS group 1&2 to group 1&2. Otherwise you have to qualify G1 to G2.

Yes , It is acceptable with G1 to G1 & G2 to G2 subject to HAZ Impact test required to perform for both HAZ G1 & G2 in PQR.
