Dear Expert,

During a site observation, a subcontractor's carbon steel shell (EH36, thickness 40 mm) was found re-rolled due to ovality after 100% of the NDT(UT&MPI) long seam welds. Many stresses come and grain boundaries are stretched after rolling such a thick joint.Any experts please advise.

Standard - DNV-OSC -401
Construction specifications - AWS D1.1

Thanks & Regards

Rajesh

This is Carbon steel . Should not be any issue with L seam soundness.
Pl repeat NDT
Thanks

Re-do All NDT Performed before rolling. Volumetric NDT Results should compare with before rolling. (Ex. Radiographs before and after compare it)

Thank you,

Hi

No issues .. kindly proceed rerolling and after that do volumetric and surface NDT

I suppose this is a structural material. Rerolling does not reduce the Material Thickness and it is done to obtain uniform curvature and does not induce any stresses. In structural material, even Flame straightening below 600 deg C is permitted.

Just for a precaution, you can have the L-seam RT tested after rerolling.

Thanks & Regards
