PWHT REQUIERMENT FOR PIPING AND PIPELINE

Dear masters 

we want to weld a pipeline api 5l x70 thhikness 28 mm so we want to know the requierement of PWHT CODE API 1104 

AND ALSO FOR A333 GR 6 THICKNESS 45 MM CODE B31.3  . PWHT REQUIERMENT 

CAN ANYONE CLARIFY IT FOR ME

For Pipeline construction please refer to Design Code either ASME B 31.4 or ASME B31.8 as Applicable.

A 333Gr.6 is exempted from PWHT as below.

Tnx for tour reply son u mean for a333 gr6 we will apply only preheating 95 degres without applying pwht

Yes brother compulsory you have to do preheating but you need to maintain the temperature so my recommendation is better for coil induction coil heating is good to maintain the temperature

As we know, After ASME B31.3 2012 editions, the PWHT requirements for greater than 20mm thick has been changed to 95 Deg Preheat for all thickness P.No1 material.

 

Though its excepted from latest editions, pl check the following for PWHT requirements

 

1.    Pl check the Applicable ASME edition as per your contract

2.    Pl check do u have qualified WPS/PQR without PWHT for higher thickness

 

Many clients specify in contract to follow 2012 edition, to perform PWHT for greater than 20mm thick. This is to avoid  the potential risk involved when higher thickness pipe welding at a later stage.
