Dear friends,

Can multiple welders weld in a single production joint in same process and position?

Kindly clarify me with reference ASME standards if any.

Regards,

Rajakani A,

Dear Rajakani...
It is allowed as there is no restriction from Code..Code is generally having restrictions...

Dear friend,

This can be done as there is no code restrictions. If the joint is failed all the welders are considered to be failed.

For bigger diameter pipes say, 60" which is usually welded by more than  one welder this can be accepted.

The concept of the production weld is to understand the ability of the welder in a real job situation. So on that basis try to avoid using multiple welders in one production joint.

If they are qualified yes. It happens very often when ‎a welder performs root with GTAW and then an other completes with SMAW

Dear Mr.Jijilal,

The pdf attachment  is production weld mockups for Procedure and performance qualification.

The production weld is the first joint  which  a welder welds after the qualification of his welder qualification test specimen.

Hareesh K V

Mr. hareesh,
You are right . the attachment shows this is the only instruction could find in code about production welding.
In many project i've qualified welders using production joints.
