Dear Members,

I have a query regarding the minimum distance required between the toe of fillet weld to toe of girth weld, WPS being used as per AWS D1.1, since what I have in Aramco spec(SAES-W-013..Welding requirements for offshore structures) that distance between two butt weld joint's shall be maintain to 20 mm or 3 times of thickness of member, whichever is larger..

Thanks...

Dear sir,

In the case of distance between welds, in my opinion we cannot say a standard reference, what we usually does is, we follow the project spec. In your case also you can go with the same rule as of girth weld.

The logic behind the distance requirement is to avoid the overlap of HAZ.

It all depend upon your project requirement.....As a thumb rule, it can be maintained 25 mm  gap .
