Dear all,

What is the exact defination of ferritic steel as per ASME or ASTM or EN standard.

Kindly clarify

Less Carbon, High Chrom and some small  addition of alloying elements Nb, Ni etc
U can not hardened by heattreatment

Dear sir,

Why it can not hardened by heat treatment?

By which process it can hardened ??

pl see reply of KG ..Ferritic stainless steel is defined as a  high chromium non-hardenable class of stainless alloys ,which has chromium content up to  to 30% and a carbon below 0.02 %. These steels are essentially non-hardenable by heat treatment .

misunderstood asFerritic stainless steel.  All carbon, low alloy steel are ferritic steel which can be heat treated

As there any supporting national or international standards available which  exactly spell the definition of feritic steel as client was a reference for the same.
