Hi all,

Anybody having experience in Aluminum Bronze - C63000 to carbon steel welding (full penertration fillet weld) if so please share following details.
1. Type of filler wire - GTAW
2. Type of Electrode - SMAW.
3. Interpass temperature, Is it required to maintain interpass temp. With heating coil.
4. Heat input requirements if any.
5. If no sound weld, what type of defects we can expect.
6. Other than DP, what other NDT we can use to find defects if any.

With regards,
Siva

C63000 contains Nickel, whereas ER CuAl-A2, does not contain Nickel, please re-confirm whether we can use or not.

ERCuNiAl is best choice for your application but you can also weld with ERCuAl-A2, both are suitable for your application,

if your base metal thickness has above 8 mm go with gmaw welding process,
you can weld directly as well as buttering in Carbon steel with same welding consumable as per given above,
preheat 250 C ° at AL Bronze base metal for up to 10-12 mm base thickness,

ER CuAl-A2 is best for dissimilar, but u can also use CuNiAl

Thank you Mr. Pandithan and Mr. Rahul, got ER CuNiAl filler wire to weld.
I need details from those who really having practical experience on this welding, to know and understand the difficulties faced, if any.

Aluminum bronze C63000 is a Copper-Aluminum alloy. It’s not directly weldable to Carbon steel.  Use of a buffer layer on carbon steel either Cu-Ni (70/30 or 90/10) followed by welding with fillers of matching chemistry  to alloy C 63000 would be advisable.

Thanks.
