Dear All,

We have found Damage on the Flange Serration A 350 LF2 CL1 standard , 300 #.
Can we make the repair by weld buildup and Make new Serration . Also is it necessary to make any Heat Treatment after the serration ?

Pls advise.

Flange serration in place is possible  without any welding (do not require PWHT). Need to hire contractor who is having specialised machine.
As its not commonly used, service cost would me higher.

Hello sir
Without material build up at that damage place, how machining is possible??? It will reduce the dimensions I think

Flange serration repair is possible without weld repair if the final serrated face is 0.8 mm thick.

If welding need to be carried out it shall be as per ASME PCC2, 305, and PCC1 4, Appendix C and D

PWHT required if it is a service requirement.

Serration inplace will not reduce the thickness, hardly in microns which is negligible.

Not required to attend damage 100%. Serration in place shall be done for the maximum possible extent and as long as holding pressure and no leakage, no issues.

Welding is not recommended for such a minor damage.

If it is a new flange rather than in service refer ASME SA350 & S50 OF SA961 for sections on repair

It is better to make new serration by machining, avoid any weld repair.
