Dear All

Please advice we have to fabricate some pulling heads from pipes grades
X60 and X65 with plates grade S355

We proposed WPS for welding of X65 as the higher grade to be covered also for X60 and for S355

Is these WPS 's are enough?or we need other?

HA

Hi

Design/fabrication code/specifications are not specified.
I think Client specifications will apply for this joint.

X65 grade is P1 Gr 2 as per ASME Sec IX
S355 is a structural grade steel and not defined under ASME Sec IX.
An equivalent grade P355 (pressure vessel plate) is also P1 Gr 2 as per ASME Sec IX.

There is SMYS difference between X65 and S355. And S355 is approximately equivalent to X56.
If API 1104 is considered, X65 WPS can be used down to X46 grade i.e., X56 grade is covered.
But Client specifications shall take precedence, if any.

I think the WPS is acceptable provided meeting the properties required for pull head joint.
And I guess the weld would be cut-out re-weld with mating X-65 line pipe.
Based on this, the Client can be approached for approval.

But the WPS cannot be used for other applications as S355 is not defined in Sec IX.

Thanks
For steel plates you can consider it as X52
For now just to explain for client when we weld the steel plates X52 to the pipes X65 We can use the WPS/PQR prepared for X65 and so on
The pipes specifications are API 5L Gr. X60 PSL2, NACE PIPE or Equivalent
