Dear Expert

Welding application: compressor piping
Process: GMAW 1.2mm ER70S-6
Welding issue: silicone contamination after welding

How can I reduce the silicon content?
Any special method or consumable which can solve this issue?

Kindly advice.

In the first step you have to investigate the root cause of the high Si content. Is it just slight percentage from the base material or consumable or etc, or is it higher percentage caused from grinding remain or etc.

Replace ER 70S-6 with ER70S- 3 GMAW filler wire. Silicon content is 0.45 % to 0.75% for ER70S-3  and 0.8 % to 1.15 % for ER 70S- 6.

This is as per Aramco recommendation.

Anup

Guys I face high silicon content in ER70S-3 with high rejection repair rate, after changing of ER70S-6 we reduce repair rate.better purchase different manufacturer, and verify purging gas purity.
