Dear Battini,
When your material is 304, the 308 filler wire is sufficient for strength & integrity.
If 308 meets your materials' chemical composition requirements, why do you want to use 316L?
308 is more economical than 316L. An Essential part is to pass the mechanical test as required/client specifications.
There is no effect if you use 316L. All the obtained results will be higher than your material specs.
Please refer to ASME SEC II Part-C SFA 5.9 for SS filler wire. It will assist you.
