Under ASME Section IX, it is acceptable to use a WPS qualified with a 2G PQR for production welds
made in 5G or 6G provided the WPS remains within its qualified essential variable ranges.
You do not need to qualify a separate WPS in 5G or 6G solely because production welding is in those
positions.
However, the welders are to be individually qualified for the production welding positions like 5G and 6G.
Otherwise, a contractor cannot use them other than in the 2G position. If the welder is qualified in 6G,
Then he can weld in all positions, including fillets.

Yes, under ASME Section IX, you can generally use a WPS that was qualified with a 2G procedure qualification test for production welding in 5G or 6G positions. You do not normally need to requalify the WPS in 6G/ALL positions.
The important point is that WPS qualification and welder qualification (WQT/WPQ) are two different things.

All essential and nonessential variables specified in the WPS must be strictly followed. Once a variable is specified in the WPS, you are only permitted to perform the welding in accordance with that WPS. You can refer to QW-101; QW-200.1 for reference.

This means that if the WPS specifies only the 2G welding position, it may only be used for welding in the 2G position. If you want the WPS to cover all welding positions, the WPS must be revised accordingly (refer QW-203)
