UT techniques for piping inspection

Dear Colleagues,

 

Our Oil and gas Company intends to do the piping inspection after 7 years operation, the SOW expected as below:

- Thickness measurement by UTM,

- Weldment inspection: root inspection and volume inspection.

I understand that the painting layer must be removed for the accuracy of inspection result. But in case we expect to verify whether there are cracks, flaws in root weld joint and weld joints as well, not sizing the cracks that we need to remove the paint or not. In case crack or flaw found, painting will be removed and sizing and evaluating UT will be carried out then.

There is base UT equipment to do the weldment inspection without painting layer removal.

Please help.
