We have selected one TIG filler wire Turballoy 13-8 Mo which matches the chemical composition of our base material and has same UNS Number. The manufacturer is United States Welding Corporation but not available in India..
We have past experience of 15-5 PH stainless steel welded with ER 630 Filler wire but UTS achieved after age hardening is 1100 MPa.
Also some reputed consumable manufacturers have suggested ER 630 filler wire but cannot guarantee strength and hardness after age hardening.
We would like to know the suitable filler wire / electrode and best process to weld this material - TIG / SMAW.

Hi Prem,
These alloys are really special type of alloys. Precipitation hardenable hence all alloys have to be aged after welding . Different aging temperatures are applicable according to the specifications and required properties. I’ve highlighted the nominal mechanical properties in SA-564 ,extract as attached.
Typically, E 630 electrodes/filler metals are used for welding 17/4ph stainless steel. This grade is most commonly used PH stainless steels , in valves and other components.
If matching Turballoy 13-8 welding consumable is not available by any means, 17/4 ph or E/ER 630 electrode/filler metal would be the way to go.
If E630 does not meet the criteria, consumables for Precipitation hardenable Nickel Based alloys would be the only available option.
Regards.
