Pre-Qualified WPSs

While using pre-qualified WPSs is it mandatory to do mechanical tests ? 

If yes , why are they called pre - qualified WPSs then ?

Yes, PWPS means Pre-WPS. Based on that document PQR conducted, that needs mechanical test, root, face bend test and Tensile test. If test results are in acceptance limit than finally PWPS becomes WPS or final document ready for production welding.

Unless otherwise you are using the essential variables outside the ranges of pre-qualified WPSs as per the code, there is no need for any tests. 

The ranges of the variables are clearly stated in the code.
