Hi Experts,

Hope you are doing well!

We have one problem arises on construction site of material mix-up without any physical traceability i.e. In LTCS line some pipe supports welded of CS material SPS-F-8001 or Structural Material S275 JR but welding done with LTCS 8018-C3 consumable.

Line service is Pressurized LPG with MDMT -45 deg C. material of pipe-SA333 Gr6.

My query is how this can be sort out as client raise the objection of traceability.

Regards
Mohit Aggarwal.

Carry out PMI of Weld metal.
If it is welded with E8018 C3 ,PMI will show Ni % .
Take further action as the case may be

PMI will be carried out but what about base material. Main problem is for the base material.

According to ASME B31.3, permanent support material shall be suitable for service as per below snap shot.

Inline image

It depends on the number of Supports installed to have a thorough check, if it is few in Number Then you can perform a PMI or chemical analysis by collecting chippings on the support material and check for Nickel.

S275JR do not contain Nickel whereas A333 Gr,6 contains max 0.4% Nickel.

Another method is metallography but it is expensive as you need to hire an external consultant.

WEld is not a problem as you have welded using E8018C3 (with 0.8 - 1.2 % Nickel) suitable for the service.

Thanks & Regards
