Dear Expert,

Kindly advice,

For Pressure Vessel as per ASME Sec 8 Div 1,

Nozzle to Shell full penetration weld of Set on type nozzle, which is the governing thickness for wps selection i.e. thickness of nozzle or thickness of shell or both.

In a typical case,

Nozzle thickness 14 mm, needs to be welded on another nozzle of thickness 250 mm.

WPs available is with 5 mm to 200 mm range.

Is this wps can be used for set on type nozzle as it cover range of nozzle thickness

Yes this WPS can be used provided PQR qualified on thickness 38mm and higher,

Please see below some snap shots of Sec.IX.

Set in, Set on , the governing thickness is nozzle^s thickness, if it is set through ,then it is Header thickness

Dear chintan

Ignore my previous reply.
1.if nozzle is fitup like seton and  bevel in only seton nozzle not in branch(pipe, plate) than governing thickness will be seton on noozle not branch(pipe, plate).

Reason- welding to be done around seton nozzle with whatever fillet require.

2. If noozle is fitup like seton and bevel in only branch(plate, pipe) than governing thickness will branch thickness

Reason- in this case welding to be filled in bevel of branch so  branch thickness  will be the mandatory thickness for wps.

3.if noozle and branch both has bevel and seton noozle fitup on branch than whichever is maximum thickness will be mandatory thickness
