Black dots on sdss welding

Dear Team,

Can you please explain about the black dots appears on SDSS GTAW Weld bead( ER 2594 )  with document backup for the causes

Hi Narayanan,

 

Please refer the discussions and the answers provided the following link. The spots may appear due to few issues:

  • Type of lubricants used during wire drawing of the GTAW filler wires. Typically oil based lubricants if used could generate such residues, while soap type lubricants  may not.
  • Surface finish of the SDSS. If the products are acid cleaned & pickled after manufacturing the chances of such welding dross would be less.

Irrespective of those facts, the discussions in this following link are worthwhile to look at.

Will cleaning the Filler Rod and Joint using a solvent like Acetone will solve this problem.
