Dear Experts;

  I would like to get your professional opinion on combination of PQRs as per ASME Section IX QW-200.4   I have 2 PQRs (w/back-gouging) and I would like to combine these 2 PQRs ;

·         PQR-1 Base Metal P355 GH Thickness : 8mm Process 1)Root : SMAW 2)Hot-Fill-Cap : SAW Back Weld: SAW

·         PQR-2 Base Metal P355 GH Thickness : 8mm Process 1)Root : SMAW 2)Hot-Fill-Cap : SMAW Back Weld: SMAW

My question is whether i can combine these 2 PQR for generating a new WPS ;

·         Generated WPS : Base Metal Thickness : 16mm Process 1)Root : SMAW 2)Hot-Fill-Cap : SAW Back Weld: SMAW

Is it possible to use PQR-1 & PQR-2 for generating WPS for usage of SMAW for the back weld ?  What bothers me and makes me feel i should get advisory is since QW-200.4 (b) says;  For GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, PAW, and SAW, or combinations of these processes, a PQR for a process recording a test coupon that was at least 1/2 in. (13 mm) thick may be combined with one or more other PQRs recording another welding process and any greater base metal thickness.  Since my PQRs are carried out with 8mm thck. is it possible for me to combine them and apply SMAW Back Weld instead of SAW or not?

Best Regards;

Demir

As you stated , to combine 2 PQRs and generate a new WPS, your PQRs should be performed with material greater than 13mm.
