Dear All,

As per API 6D, testing for Valves, Code does not call for Radiography Testing for Forged Valves, whereas RT is mandatory for Cast Valves.

Kindly clarify the reason for not stipulating RT on Forged Valve

Thanks.

There are some differences between Cast & Forged products.

CAST VALVE                                                                             FORGED VALVE
1. Castings are normally associated                                          1. Except Hot shortness not much defects in
with defects and Inclusions which                                               Forgings which can be controlled.
affect the Integrity of the valve

2.  Normally no Heat Treatment after castings                           2. Forgings receives Grain refining Heat
                                                                                                        Treatment and better rpoperties.

3. No limitation on Sizes of Valves                                             3. Only smaller sizes mostly

4. Low cost                                                                                 4. Higher cost

RT is specified only to Cast valves because it is prone to Defects like Porosities & inclusion.

Thanks & Regards
