Dear Experts,
We have received some sour service flanges (NACE MR-0175), These flanges are impact tested at 20 degree Celsius by the manufacturer.

Our specification calls as below.

" All Carbon steel materials of thickness greater than 12.7 mm must be impact tested at minus (-29 degree Celsius) in accordance with ASME B31.3 (para 323.3)"

The design temperature of the line is 50 degree Celsius.

Do i need to get the flanges tested at -29 degree Celsius to fulfill the specification.

Experts please advise.

Thanks,
Kiran

To fulfill the spec., the answer is YES.
To fulfill engineering sense, the answer is NO.

How is the thickness of the flange determined? Is there any basis given by client or the code basis remains valid? You may first define the thickness and then proceed.

Dear Raghavendra ,

Yes, you have to follow the Client Spec requirements, because that one RULES first, so you have to fulfill.

Is your flange material SA350 LF2 ?

So, how do you test the flange now, which you have already received it right ?

Give details and ofcourse you have to inform your client about this issue and let them know inadvance with proper details.

Their TPI should witness the test, if it is required as per your contract.

Regards,
Saravanan
