Use of SMAW at online leakage

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask why SMAW is used in online leakage rectification? Why isn't GTAW used in such cases? Do we always use SMAW in such cases?

1. GTAW is slow process since the travel speed is less and in positional welding  it is associated with High Heat Input.

2. Online leakage performed with Backing Plate hence SMAW is considered less cost, higher production rate with high travel speed and low heat input.
