Procedure for Z test

Dear All,

We have a storage tank to be manufactured . Material is SA516 Gr 70. Thickness of material 16mm.

We have to perform Z test, can you share the procedure.

Please refer to ASTM A770 for testing procedure and sampling.

i donot think Z-Through thickness tensile may not be required for thickness of 16mm.

Dear Sir

Z Test is usually performed on Thickness 25mm and above.

 

If Customer is Insisting on Z test then it shall be done as per ASTM 770 with Sample Size of 100 x 100mm. It is also known as through Thickness test.

 

Please clarify with customer the reduction % requirement Z15 / Z25 / Z35.

 

Also in some cases when plates are Vaccum Degassed Condition then Z test is not required.

 

Still if customer insist you can go with the same. Copy of Lab Report is attached for your reference for Z35 Test.
