The following is an exam question. Please guide how to do it
A one and Half inch of material has to be PWHTed from 600 F to 1350 and shall be kept at 1350 F for 6 hours. It has to be cooled down back to 600 F. If the rate of heating and cooling is 500F per hour per inch , what is the total time for PWHT. Do not consider heating the material up to 600F in the calculation

PWHT time is Soaking time= 6hr.

Soaking time 6 hours + 1 hr heating time + 1 hr cooling time = 8 hours total PWHT Cycle time.

The rate of Heating / Cooling to be considered.
Approximately 250 Deg Celsius per hour for Carbon steel.

11.4 hrs total.
2.7 hr for rate of heating and 6 hrs holding time and 2.7 hrs for rate of cooling so in total : 11.4hrs
